Eric McHale’s Journey from USPHL Elite to NCDC in Eight Months
When Eric McHale’s WBS Knights Elite team lost the USPHL Championship game in double-overtime at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, little did he realize that only eight short months after that crushing disappointment, he would be taking the ice for his first NCDC game. After a tremendous 2022-23 USPHL Elite campaign, where he notched 76 points in 42 games, McHale began last season as captain of the WBS Knights 18U-AAA team. His leadership and on-ice performance earned him a call-up to the NCDC team on November 12, 2024.
McHale did not disappoint in his first taste of the USPHL’s top tier of hockey, playing a regular shift and posting one assist in a WBS Knights victory over the visiting Rockets Hockey Club. He was called up three more times before the Christmas break and was added to the NCDC roster on a full-time basis at the conclusion of the 18U-AAA season. McHale finished the year with one goal and five assists in 17 NCDC games and will be a full-time member of the NCDC team for the 2024-25 season.
New WBS Knights General Manager Andy Scott commented, “Eric is a great competitor with tremendous mental toughness and belief in himself. He has been told many times in his career that he wasn’t good enough, but he just keeps proving the nay-sayers wrong. Eric is a glowing example of the development and internal advancement culture that we are trying to foster at the Knights. We believe all players in our program can with enough hard work, earn their way to the NCDC no matter where they start.” There is no doubt that Eric McHale is proof of that.
